Since yesterday I dedicated my post to The Earth in honor of Earth Day, today I’ll highlight my food of the week! An incredibly versatile and surprisingly nutrient-packed item that is always on my grocery list: the one…the only…the banana.
While bananas are often used in breakfasts, or obviously solely as someone’s breakfast, they really can be used to make anyyy kind of food, breakfast through the day to dessert! Food Matters posted a fantastic article about some 25 powerful benefits of eating these amazing fruits, which really pushed me to try and have some banana every day!
Obviously bananas are a fantastic base for smoothies. I use a frozen banana in every single one of mine, as it makes the smoothie extra luscious, creamy, and perfectly sweetened. Here are some great smoothie recipes using bananas!
Blackberries and Banana Smoothie
The list seriously could go on and on… so I will continue with other amazing bananananana recipes (got a little carried away there…)
I’m going to take a mid-post break to establish the fact that, yes, most of these recipes require fully ripened bananas, especially when using them as sweeteners in baking. If you don’t happen to have ripe bananas on hand (I stagger how many I buy at a time, so that I will almost always have some frozen – for smoothies, ripe – for baking, and ready-to-eat). I found a great post on how to ripen bananas in less than 10 minutes just in case you are in a pickle and need them for a recipe! Good stuff, huh?! Now back to the sweet decadent banana-licious treats 🙂
^ My sister has made this recipe, and it is seriously SO GOOD. You can’t even tell it’s sweetened by the natural sugars in the ripe bananas! 🙂
And for the slightly more decadent taste…
Cinnamon Swirl Banana Bread
PHEW! Well I hope you all have realized my love for bananas….and desserts. Alright, that’s established. SO GO BAKE SOMETHING! 🙂
WOAH! Where’d the banana come from?!
