Saying Yes to Finding My True Potential-11/17/2017

For the past few weeks, or maybe months, I’ve been trying to focus on my potential. My opportunities, chances, ways to grow. And focusing on accepting new invitations…saying YES to new ideas and events in order to give myself the chance to say “I loved that! I want to keep going back!” or “Nah, that wasn’t for me…” I’m realizing this is the best and most effective way for me to really GET OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE. We’ve all probably heard the adage, but it is exactly the way to grow and develop and cultivate every ounce of your potential. I know that I have room to grow, and I have a seemingly endless amount of goals I want to accomplish/ bucket list items to check off. So why wait? I’m ready to start now πŸ™‚img_20171117_063811_2182452283716724134189 Most recently, I joined a hot yoga studio – the same one at which my wonderful cousin Mary works. I haven’t done hot yoga in over a year, and I haven’t participated in Bikram in over 5 years! But Wednesday night I went to a class, and enjoyed every single moment of it. If you have never done Bikram, it’s veryyyy different from a traditional vinyasa yoga class. Finding my breath, finding my balance, and focusing on getting my sweaty and warmed body to do what I want it to do. It was WONderful and I will be going back as often as I can (especially in this chilly winter season! Quite the detox!). I hope to combine this type of yoga with my regular vinyasa as well to get a more well rounded practice (this may just be for me and not for you, so do what your body feels good doing!)img_20171115_185219_6221894669070215012660IMG_20171116_092600_651I have also officially been using my prana mat regularly at night! I try and lay on it 3-4 times per week after dinner at home while we rest and watch Netflix. It’s been wonderfully detoxing as well, and my back and neck have especially felt so much better and less tight. That, in conjunction with my hour-long massages every 3 weeks, has been my personal golden ticket to recovery πŸ™‚ In the afternoons at work when we all feel that 2:00-3:00 slump, my lemon ginger tea is the perfect way to wake me up without any additional caffeine! The ginger is SO wonderful for digestion too πŸ™‚

Below are the new malas that I recently purchased too – if you don’t know much about malas, it’s okay – I’m still learning a lot too πŸ™‚ There are 108 beads, that are known for protecting us and activating certain energies throughout our daily lives. Essentially, if you’re drawn to a mala, get it – they’re beautiful and hand-crafted and are daily reminders for me (and anyone) to be present and activate whatever that mala represents. I love it, but maybe that’s just me. πŸ™‚img_20171103_1822576768654253761752667I have made some pretty great changes in how I eat, what I eat, when I eat… I want to first say that EVERYBODY eats differently. Everybody’s body, workouts, sleep schedule, hormone levels, recovery process, and overall goals is different than mine. So what I find works for me may not be what works for someone else. πŸ™‚ That being said! I have completely cut out dairy, no questions. It suxxxxx because cheese/ice cream… But my body doesn’t like it, doesn’t like to digest it, and it really just makes me feel junky so BYE! Same goes for refined sugars. Aside from some stray Halloween candy in the last couple weeks, I have cut out refined sugars. YES this is not easy, YES I still cave in sometimes, and YES I don’t plan on never eating sugar again. YES I am only human, but sugar is harshing my poz vibes bro πŸ˜‰ Hot tea in the afternoons and ice cold amino acids any time of day are a perfect way for me to curb any potential sweet tooth from popping through too πŸ™‚
img_20171116_143724_3362212632128149254177When I’m at work, I make sure I get up and walk around more. Again, still trying to hit my 10,000-12,000 steps per day! I stretch more (morning, afternoon and night before bed). I practice cleansing breathing techniques in the morning to wake up more clearly, and also before bed to slow my heart rate and relax my body as much as I can. I practice yoga every day, even if its a short as 15 minutes or if it’s 90 minutes in a class some days. I run minimum 2 miles 6 days a week. And these are just some of the new implementations and positive changes I’ve made in my personal lifestyle. I feel wonderful, to say the least πŸ™‚ I plan to keep this up and hope to have even more positive results to share in the coming months!
img_20171112_105755_7421515459764341056905It drives me crazy when I feel like I could have done better at something. Or when I’ve forgotten to take my probiotic or multi-vitamin one day. Personally, it just feels like I’ve lost my true potential for that day. No, I’m not hard on myself nor do I punish myself for small things like this. But I really want to make improvements for GOOD, and fully 100% diving-in commit to them. Committing to positive energy, positive thoughts, and positive changes is for REAL what finding potential is all about. πŸ™‚ At least for this girl. Loving my body, loving my mind and spirit, and honoring what I feel THAT day EVERY day.screenshot_20171113-1007428040621433161112012What drives you? What makes you FEEL alive? Friday Favorites 10.20.2017

Hey friends πŸ™‚ I’m currently working on a blog about my recent trip to Europe – and I’m hoping to finish it this weekend when I get the time to fully engage and put details into it! So stay tuned!

In the meantime, I wanted to share some things I’m REALLY into lately. I’ve started to “revamp” some of the products I use in my day-to-day routine, I’ve started reading again recently (FINALLY!), and a bunch of other little things I think are fun and cute and worth sharing about. If you don’t care, stop reading HAHA.

1. My new book, Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown.

As many of you probably know, Brene Brown is AMAZING and her lectures and books and anything she writes (or touches) is gold! I just started the book literally yesterday and I already feel SO empowered. Yes that sounds corny, but it’s literally exactly what I feel so go read it πŸ™‚2. My new face lotion/ face masks/ skincare routine.

I never really cared about skin products. Ever. I use scentless, heavy moisturizing, eczema safe lotions and soaps, so I never really looked around for other products. Until I found an awesome face mask from Natura Culina (Rose’Berry) and a new face lotion from Radha Beauty. I also happened to win a yoga challenge on Instagram (cool right?!) and won another black charcoal face mask from Radha – sweet!

So far, they both have done wonders on my face – my skin is way softer, and hopefully, with the drier conditions that always come with winter, I’ll be able to keep my skin moisturized with their help πŸ™‚ I also started using “Yes to Coconuts” hand lotion and I AM ADDICTED. So that’s that.3. Hazelnut and Pumpkin Spice coffee.

I mean, do I really have to explain this?4. Redecorating/ rearranging my entire apartment.

I wish this was a joke, but it isn’t. I have recently gotten completely head-over-heels inspired to clean and organize and rearrange our space. In a good way!! I absolutely adore where we live, and I want to improve some of the ways we are setting up the area. I want to get new pillows, rugs, storage…even small things like bathroom accessories.

I want to create a space for me to do yoga and keep the items I use in my yoga practice. I just want to illuminate our apartment!Β And make it as beautiful and refined and US as we possibly can. I’m super stoked Patrick is on board with this too otherwise that mayyy be an uphill, slow, painful, annoying battle πŸ™‚ Thanks love!

Since we got home from Europe, I set a goal for myself to cook and prepare all of my meals that I eat at work during the day.Β  Breakfast, snacks, lunch, snacks, and more snacks. I want to try and minimize the amount I personally spend on food throughout the week, so that when we do choose to splurge and go to a restaurant, I know that I haven’t already spent $20-$50 that week on lunches and breakfasts, etc. This also falls into the category of being more organized of course πŸ™‚ Making sure we grocery shopped, we cook more for dinner so we have leftovers for the next day, bringing extra snacks because we ALL know how 2:00 HANGRY feels πŸ™‚ It’s going well so far! And yes, it’s only been a week, so we’ll see πŸ™‚6. House of Lies

Patrick and I started watching Don Cheadle’s new TV show House of Lies last night and IT IS SO FUNNY. Kristin Bell is in it (and I adore her) and so is Ben Schwartz who I hope you all remember from Parks and Rec as Jean-Ralphio (arguably one of the best characters on that show). It’s VERY irreverent and fairly sexualized, but the banter between the people on their team, and how Don Cheadle discretely teaches us about sales and management is an awesome combination for this show. This isn’t new! Shannon, you do yoga all the time! Yes, I know, but this time, I’m actually setting a goal to attend a yoga class once per week. This proved to be challenging (okay, impossible!) with my marathon training. Both months of August and September were flooded with races, travel, weddings… you remember. So now that Autumn is here and I have opened my heart and mind (and schedule) again to having a teacher-guided practice. I am SOOOOO excited I can’t even tell you. I hope to join more workshops, explore multiple yoga studios, and hopefully learn more about my own personal practice and how to incorporate more meditation and mantras into my daily life. ❀ πŸ™‚8. And ON that last point, I have been listening to the Yoga Girl podcast NON. STOP. lately. Yes I have a lot of episodes to catch up on because she started her weekly podcast back in March – and I’m so okay with that! I keep her episodes on while I’m at work and it is so refreshing to hear her ideas and listen to her guests talk about all kinds of ways to revive and rejuvenate your life and relationships and self love, etc. I am completely in love πŸ™‚690fdda87d7dc0797e7dda03cfe7caca--yoga-girl-rachel-brathen-jaiAlso – I’ll take any advice on podcasts you recommend!!

Welp that’s everything in a nutshell! I am stoked about revitalizing my lifestyle, my wardrobe, my apartment, and just my overall mentality and wellbeing too. It’s always a work-in-progress of course, and I love the change and ebb and flow every step of the way.

Life Lately 4.21.17

Hi everyone! Checking in because this week has been such a fantastic and fun week, I have so much to share πŸ™‚

Firstly, last Saturday, Patrick, my dad and I all ran the inaugural Brew City Half Marathon in Milwaukee – I think it went pretty dang well! The course is very similar to every single Milwaukee half marathon course (haha) so I knew everywhere we were running and what to expect, which is always a plus πŸ™‚

Patrick and I finished together, so I’m hoping we have another SWEET finish line photo! Finish time of 2:25!!  My dad was just shortly after us – he always likes meeting new people on his long runs and talks their ear off and gives them running and life advice πŸ™‚

I saw my childhood friend from grade school too – April!

It was a really fun first year and I think they did a fairly good job putting on the race! Aside from running out of water at mile 11 and having gross beer/brats at the end of the race (but that’s just me). The medals are HUGE and claim to be the “tallest” medals for any half marathon. I’ll take that!

And of course, yoga is going really well. Here are some of my favorites from the last few weeks:

Sunday was Easter, of course, and we (as always) got Easter baskets from both our mom and dad, filled with candy, and of course, most of that candy is gone already in less than a week. THIS is why I don’t buy candy haha! It disappears in our apartment πŸ™‚

Patrick (and a little bit on my end) has been DOMINATING the cooking scene the last few months too, and I just can’t get enough of how awesome our food looks on our new plates haha!

And yes, for those who have asked, Baymax is doing SO good. He’s the most perfect puppy, and he OFFICIALLY is over 100 lbs at 14 months old πŸ™‚ He’s so energetic and fun (not pictured above) and clearly loves napping and sleeping and any general relaxing with us after all the running and playing we do every day!

Life really is good right now you guys. Things are flowing, decisions are being made, the energy is bright and exciting, not to mention the beautiful weather we’ve had lately which makes me even MORE anxious for summer. πŸ™‚ I really can’t complain about one thing.

Yeah, I know I know. I haven’t been on my blogging game this week. Honestly didn’t have too much to share, so I let things add up a bit for a bigger, more interesting post to read πŸ™‚

Moving on…to some recent favorites in my realm of Shannon lately.

1.Β Gus.Β He’s obviously always my favorite. And he hasn’t made a celebrity appearance on my blog for awhile. So here he is πŸ™‚

2.Β RECEIVING MY OFFICIAL BODY PUMP CERTIFICATION! Okay so I may have lied up there about nothing exciting happening in my life. I officially received an email Thursday saying I am 100% certified as a Les Mills Body Pump Instructor!

So seriously thrilled that I can teach in any gym setting now. Oh, and this is JUST the beginning. Prepare for Β more certifications coming up, guys! πŸ™‚ I think I found my niche.

3.Β Yoga and Stretching. Feels. So. Great. After all this weight training for body pump, and long-distance running, pool running, and cycling… this morning was the perfect day to just STRETCH. Breathing deeply. Letting go.

Spicy Garlic Edamame.Β I made these last night (and forgot to take a picture) but wowww, they’re so delicious. I doubled the batch, so I could have some to snack on today and tomorrow too! The vinegar and soy sauce is so delicious, and the spiciness definitely enhances the flavor of the beans. Gotta try it! Check out the recipe on Energy We Bring!
