Friday Favorites 10.20.2017

Hey friends πŸ™‚ I’m currently working on a blog about my recent trip to Europe – and I’m hoping to finish it this weekend when I get the time to fully engage and put details into it! So stay tuned!

In the meantime, I wanted to share some things I’m REALLY into lately. I’ve started to “revamp” some of the products I use in my day-to-day routine, I’ve started reading again recently (FINALLY!), and a bunch of other little things I think are fun and cute and worth sharing about. If you don’t care, stop reading HAHA.

1. My new book, Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown.

As many of you probably know, Brene Brown is AMAZING and her lectures and books and anything she writes (or touches) is gold! I just started the book literally yesterday and I already feel SO empowered. Yes that sounds corny, but it’s literally exactly what I feel so go read it πŸ™‚2. My new face lotion/ face masks/ skincare routine.

I never really cared about skin products. Ever. I use scentless, heavy moisturizing, eczema safe lotions and soaps, so I never really looked around for other products. Until I found an awesome face mask from Natura Culina (Rose’Berry) and a new face lotion from Radha Beauty. I also happened to win a yoga challenge on Instagram (cool right?!) and won another black charcoal face mask from Radha – sweet!

So far, they both have done wonders on my face – my skin is way softer, and hopefully, with the drier conditions that always come with winter, I’ll be able to keep my skin moisturized with their help πŸ™‚ I also started using “Yes to Coconuts” hand lotion and I AM ADDICTED. So that’s that.3. Hazelnut and Pumpkin Spice coffee.

I mean, do I really have to explain this?4. Redecorating/ rearranging my entire apartment.

I wish this was a joke, but it isn’t. I have recently gotten completely head-over-heels inspired to clean and organize and rearrange our space. In a good way!! I absolutely adore where we live, and I want to improve some of the ways we are setting up the area. I want to get new pillows, rugs, storage…even small things like bathroom accessories.

I want to create a space for me to do yoga and keep the items I use in my yoga practice. I just want to illuminate our apartment!Β And make it as beautiful and refined and US as we possibly can. I’m super stoked Patrick is on board with this too otherwise that mayyy be an uphill, slow, painful, annoying battle πŸ™‚ Thanks love!

IMG_20171020_091737_787IMG_20171020_091743_1765. Meal prepping

Since we got home from Europe, I set a goal for myself to cook and prepare all of my meals that I eat at work during the day.Β  Breakfast, snacks, lunch, snacks, and more snacks. I want to try and minimize the amount I personally spend on food throughout the week, so that when we do choose to splurge and go to a restaurant, I know that I haven’t already spent $20-$50 that week on lunches and breakfasts, etc. This also falls into the category of being more organized of course πŸ™‚ Making sure we grocery shopped, we cook more for dinner so we have leftovers for the next day, bringing extra snacks because we ALL know how 2:00 HANGRY feels πŸ™‚ It’s going well so far! And yes, it’s only been a week, so we’ll see πŸ™‚6. House of Lies

Patrick and I started watching Don Cheadle’s new TV show House of Lies last night and IT IS SO FUNNY. Kristin Bell is in it (and I adore her) and so is Ben Schwartz who I hope you all remember from Parks and Rec as Jean-Ralphio (arguably one of the best characters on that show). It’s VERY irreverent and fairly sexualized, but the banter between the people on their team, and how Don Cheadle discretely teaches us about sales and management is an awesome combination for this show. Check it out!don-cheadle-house-of-lies-ending7. Yoga

This isn’t new! Shannon, you do yoga all the time! Yes, I know, but this time, I’m actually setting a goal to attend a yoga class once per week. This proved to be challenging (okay, impossible!) with my marathon training. Both months of August and September were flooded with races, travel, weddings… you remember. So now that Autumn is here and I have opened my heart and mind (and schedule) again to having a teacher-guided practice. I am SOOOOO excited I can’t even tell you. I hope to join more workshops, explore multiple yoga studios, and hopefully learn more about my own personal practice and how to incorporate more meditation and mantras into my daily life. ❀ πŸ™‚8. Yoga Girl Podcast

And ON that last point, I have been listening to the Yoga Girl podcast NON. STOP. lately. Yes I have a lot of episodes to catch up on because she started her weekly podcast back in March – and I’m so okay with that! I keep her episodes on while I’m at work and it is so refreshing to hear her ideas and listen to her guests talk about all kinds of ways to revive and rejuvenate your life and relationships and self love, etc. I am completely in love πŸ™‚690fdda87d7dc0797e7dda03cfe7caca--yoga-girl-rachel-brathen-jaiAlso – I’ll take any advice on podcasts you recommend!!

Welp that’s everything in a nutshell! I am stoked about revitalizing my lifestyle, my wardrobe, my apartment, and just my overall mentality and wellbeing too. It’s always a work-in-progress of course, and I love the change and ebb and flow every step of the way.

Thanks for tuning in πŸ™‚ Have an amazing weekend!

Namaste, xoxo, Shannon

Sunday Musings 1.22.17

Good morning beauties!

Since the beginning of this year, my plans have changed. I am focusing on re-focusing.

My yoga practice, my running schedule, my goals with lifting weights.

My work schedule, how I can grow in my job, what I can do to improve our company.

The layout of our apartment, what I do in my spare time, purging our rooms of unnecessary clutter.

My diet and eating schedule, focusing on cleaner and nutrient-rich foods, lessening the empty-calorie snacking.

All of these parts of my life have been recently revamped, and I am thrilled to continue with my new plan to achieve my goals this way. Every single day, I try and focus on what I can do this day only, and how I can move one inch closer to my goals. Every day is different and everything is personal. Find your way, and keep that as your way.

Having a daily practice for all aspects of my life has grounded me and given me the opportunity to shed stress and rejuvenate my spirit and drive for the week to come. Don’t get down without knowing and planning on climbing back up. ❀️

Have you written your goals? Have you rid yourself of unnecessary baggage? What do you want to accomplish just today, only today?

Until next time, friends. ✌️

Xoxo.

Exciting Updates and Thoughts! 8.11.16

Good morning beauties! Okay. I know it’s been almost a month since I’ve posted but BOY do I have updates for you!! So much has happened in the last 3 weeks and I am just bursting to share with you!

First and foremost… I have officially accepted a new position for my career… As a Full Time Personal Trainer!! πŸ™‚ I was referred by a friend, and the position honestly just sort of landed in my lap but I COULD NOT BE MORE EXCITED.Β

This entire week has been shadowing trainers and group fit instructors, and I even have my own clients to personally train already πŸ™‚ It’s a pretty wonderful scenario and I can’t wait to get busier!

THE BEST PART is that I get to keep my current job part-time! They found a place to keep me working here and I am so grateful and excited to stay a part of a wonderful company during the day when I’m not training πŸ™‚ #grateful #lifeisgood

Outside of THAT amazing update, I have still been trying to keep my schedule relatively the same. Working out in the mornings, still having my wonderful homemade dinners with Patrick and Baymax every night. It’s a wonderful life πŸ™‚

Some looks at my inversions for this last week.

Since my birthday was July 31, and we were on our camping trip at Rocky Mountain National Park (different blog to come!), I wasn’t able to see my family, so I was able to celebrate with them after we got back! πŸ™‚

My mom made me THE BEST CARD (as always) ((and yes that’s considered a card to her- a poster)) with pictures of me growing up and it is currently hung in our apartment since I love it so much. She makes every card with so much love and care, it’s amazing ❀

My dad and step mom and sister took me and Patrick out for Mexican last Friday (MY FAVORITE YAS) and Patrick and I split a margarita bigger than my face. πŸ™‚

AND my little sister made me a homemade blueberry pie. I feel like I can literally smell it and taste it through this picture… SO AMAZING.

The following morning (hilarious, I know) we ran a HOT 5K around Miller Park area on the Hank Aaron State Trail. Only about .25 miles was actually ON the trail, which I’m bummed about, but my dad and I ran a sub 10-minute mile pace the entire time so I was happy πŸ™‚

That night, we went out to the State Fair with our wonderful friends Mitch and Lindsey and OBVIOUSLY had to go down the Giant Slide. I haven’t done that… in probably… 15 years. I kid you not. It was probably the best 10 seconds of my month πŸ™‚

All in all, I am deliriously happy. Life works out in mysterious ways, and I couldn’t be more grateful for all your support, and particularly the support of my incredibly man Patrick. He’s my man-cheerleader and I thank him every single day for being the best person in my life. My mom, my dad, my sisters… they are all the best too – we literally exchange family emails on a daily basis going over pros and cons of my life decisions.Β How amazing is that? ❀

Did I mention that above^ was my first time doing a forearm stand with no wall? I had myself close to a wall JUST IN CASE, and I gently floated one leg at a time up and didn’t even touch it. YAY PROGRESS! πŸ™‚

Have a wonderful beautiful healthy day my friends! πŸ™‚

Joined Running with Spoons!

Our Marathon Journey. The Halfway Point.

Hello Saturday! Yes, I understand it’s already 4:30pm on Saturday, and it’s not even halfway through our day. Marathon training at its finest πŸ™‚ Our weekends don’t “start” until after our long runs on the weekends. But we always welcome the remaining day and a half with open and welcome arms! πŸ™‚

image

I have been continuing my yoga challenges of course (there are sooooo many right now!) and posting frequently on my Instagram if you care to take a peek πŸ™‚

imageI wanna throw together a little update on how Patrick and I have been doing so far during our marathon training. This is, as a reminder, Patrick’s first marathon (YAY SO EXCITED) and my third (WHY AM I STILL DOING THIS). We decided on New Years Day to sign up together and to get 2016 going with a bang and a goal to be super fit and healthy πŸ™‚

imageAs of this morning, we officially passed our halfway point for our training. So far, our longest run has been 15 miles, and today we ran a half marathon together. Next week, the real fun begins πŸ˜‰ With LONG distances and finally getting into 40-50+ miles per week before we hit the big day on May 22nd.

Both of us have had some “injuries” and some soreness, of course the kind that’s typical with long distance training and some soreness that isn’t so welcome. For me, hip and IT Band issues (as always and as expected) and for Patrick, some muscle issues with his calf. BUT aside from that, we are LOVING training. And are so happy that we have finally been able to run the majority of our miles outside. Running indoors after work and on weekends in the winter was rough. But with Spring coming soon, we get pavement, trails and sunshine! πŸ™‚

image

I am so encouraged every day by running with him. He not only pushes me to run faster (he’s WAY faster than me naturally) but he also is helping me improve my form, posture, and even my breathing. I feel like a newly taught runner, not even kidding! I have learned so much more about my body and what works best for me after his advice; his experience and background running Track and Cross Country in high school and college has given him a huge leg up for this race. I cannot WAIT to see him cross that finish line (in pictures since he’ll obviously SMOKE me haha).

I even asked Patrick what his favorite part about marathon training is, and he said… committing to doing it together πŸ™‚ And putting both of our minds and bodies to this challenge… is just the best feeling in the world πŸ™‚

Thanks for reading this little recap πŸ™‚ We will keep you posted of course as we go along the way!

imageAnybody else training for a marathon? Or even your first big race?? How’s it going?

What training plan are you following? Any awesome articles or programs you recommend??

Peace, Love, and Always Running ❀ xoxo

2015 Wrap-Up

The speed with which this last year RACED by is still unbelievable to me…but I wouldn’t change anything about it. Every single month, something exciting happened. And every single day, a new memory was created from that day’s experiences. I am so excited to see how 2016 goes… And I have a feeling it’ll be JUST as exceptional, if not better than this year β€βœŒπŸ˜„

I chose my favorite photos from each month this year, and hope you enjoy my little recap. Imagine some nostalgic happy music playing in the background…

Stirring, spotaneous, passionate, hilarious, productive, and irrevocably filled with love and Patrick by my side. That’s what I want for my new year.

Thinking Out Loud: Future Travels and Exciting Changes

Good morning friends! How is everyone?

thinking-out-loud

These Thursday posts are keeping me alive in this blog world, I swear. My goals for these blogs are as follows:
Weekly haul of fascinating links I find (I always find them so fun and informative and interesting!)
Recipes (posting pictures of my delicious scrumptious food combinations might make you salivate on your keyboard πŸ˜‰ but I want to actually create recipes that you can use at home too!)
What I Ate Wednesdays (are these interesting to anyone else? Sometimes I completely forget to take pictures of every single thing I eat in a day…)

Anyhoo! I have some really exciting travels coming up – as in, NEXT WEEK! Patrick and I, along with a couple friends of ours, are jumping on a very long airplane ride, with many layovers… TO HAWAII!

We fly out next Wednesday for a gorgeous and incredibly perfect trip for 10 days to visit our friends who LIVE there! Can you imagine? LIVING on the gorgeous Hawaiian islands…. ahhh, the dream.

My weeks and days and hours and minutes have just been flying by – every day at work is different (and exciting), with its fair share of ups and downs, but hey! As my dad always says… “That’s Real Estate!” At least I get to spend every other minute with this big lug…

Besides our Hawaii trip, we have a trip planned for the beginning of January for Patrick’s birthday as well! Washington DC seems to be our current destination 😊

Do you have any fun and new travels planned for the coming months? We are travel fiends, and my family is too! So I am entirely grateful for every opportunity I have to get on a plane or hop out on a road trip. ✌🏻️❀️

Another kinda exciting change is this here hair ‘do! FINALLY went darker and got my sun-kissed orangey red hair out of the way…

And even though summer is over (even though it doesn’t feel like it yet in Wisconsin!) Patrick and I thought our plans would mellow out more and we wouldn’t be as busy through fall and winter.  Wrong. We love being busy and experiencing new awesome events so maybe we just curse ourselves πŸ˜‰

We’ve been cooking about half as often as we’ve been going out with my family and out to events that serve dinner, so I would say we’re doing alright!

And of course, doing lots of yoga and lifting and running. To keep me sane, ya know?

To add to my business, and busy-ness (ha!), I have been studying for my personal training exam, which j take in December. And in January/February, I will be taking classes and exams to obtain my Wisconsin Realtor license! That makes me super official 😊 Cannot wait to get out in the field more in depth and help my dad’s business grow!

Looks like I absolutely have my work cut out for me! The work never stops but the fun never ends.

Peace and love, good people! Xoxo

TOL #8 HashtagIsItFridayYet?

Heylooooo friends πŸ™‚ Did you also wake up this morning thinking it was Friday? WOMP.

fridaySince Monday, I honestly haven’t done anything super extraordinarily exciting; but I’m very happy with that. I’ve been sleeping A LOT, cleaning my apartment A LOT, cooking and eating A LOT, and also running…often πŸ™‚

Thinking-Out-Loud2

Happy Birthday to Running with Spoons! It’s her 3 year anniversary – Congrats Amanda! πŸ™‚

I’ve been blogging for maybe two years? But totally off and on again…about who knows what…up and down and all around. Hopefully this train of blogs tickles the reader’s fancy…all you readers out there.

1.I’ve been running at least 3 miles a day, and trying to stretch A LOT afterwards. I’m always guilty of flattening my body out and laying down immediately after a run, or hopping directly into the shower without so much as one quad stretch. BAD Shannon!

No worries, no worries. This week I’ve been doing much much better πŸ™‚ (aka, I’m stretching AT ALL vs. not stretching like I used to…)

photophoto 5This marathon better watch its BUTT cuz I’mma KICK IT!

2. Yesterday was National Dog Day! I’m sorry to all those cat people out there, but dogs rule and cats are okay-I-guess. I love my puppies and they’ll always be my puppies! πŸ™‚ Buddy is on the left and Augustine is on the right. Woohoo! #bestfrands

photo 4 (1)

3. I’ve been trying to “meal prep” this week, but since Patrick and I share most of our meals, they really only turn into dinner that night for both of us…and one more meal each. But hey! Its something, right? We like making a LOT of meat, or a LOT of rice with veggies as staples.

And sometimes, we just make Brinner (Breakfast for Dinner) and call it a night, because who doesn’t like THAT? #baconftw

photo (1)

This has been my lunch the last few days. Simple chicken tenders lightly pan fried in EVOO with some seasonings (heavy on the seasonings) and some simply steamed green beans. BOY AM I IN LOVE WITH THAT!

photo 3 (1)

Last night, we made ground turkey with sauteed veggies (zucchini, onion, green bell pepper, tomatoes…) and made them into theΒ best tacos ever. Okay they probably weren’t “the best” but I was REALLY feelin tacos last night, so it was absolutely perrrrrrfect.

photo 1 photo 2

And I may or may not have had one for breakfast this morning……….. NOMZ.

We used fresh tomatoes and a green pepper from my mom’s garden! Woot! Thanks mamacita!

photo 5 (1)

4. Don’t you love this? Sometimes I scroll through Instagram (not much lately with how busy I’ve been) and I had to screen shot this quote. I’ve read quite a few of Hemingway’s pieces of work, and his diction and heartfelt FEELING behind his words always amazes me.

photo 2I am constantly working on ME, and focusing on improving my “Former Self,” because that is the ultimate judge. You make you happy, that’s where it’s at πŸ™‚ Oh, and love one another. Kiss and hug and stuff πŸ™‚

5. Last but NOT least, I finally got my medal hanger upper thing! I ordered this special one from Etsy, and I LOVE IT. Problem is… its full… And I probably will have to order another before it becomes too heavy and rips out the nails in my walls #firstworldproblems

Β photo 3 photo 4

Isn’t it AWESOME? I’m so happy there’s a chalkboard area where I can write my PR’s! And the two clips are for upcoming or past BIBS! C’mon, how cool is THAT! Definitely love love love my new wall-piece. #runnerpride

PSA: Go do something that PUSHES you today. Getting up to run 6 miles this morning was incredibly difficult, but I did it. And ya know, as different as every single person on this planet is,Β we all have goals. So we might as well go CHASE them! I know that after I accomplish something that moves me even an INCH towards my goal, I’m thrilled πŸ™‚ And motivated to keep pushing forward. So get on witchyo bad self! πŸ˜€

motivation

^^one of my favorite quotes of all time.

Happy Thuuuuuuuuuuuurssssssssssssssssday ❀ πŸ™‚

Peace, xoxo
