Life Lately 8.21.2017 – #lifeissweet

Anyone out there?? It’s me, Shannon.

I don’t want to mention how long it’s been since I’ve written one of these beloved posts. I have so many drafts started, notes in my phone, messages out to friends and family for inspiration… But I never got myself to just sit down and put something together. And now, I’m ready to get back in the game with this wonderful outlet. I already feel back at home – this is something I’ve missed doing, and making time to stay committed to blog up-keep is definitely not easy, especially during the busy summertime. BUT HERE WE GO. πŸ™‚

So where do I begin?

Probably the biggest part of my life right now is my current training for my upcoming race – my fourth full marathon. Β It’s the Lakefront Marathon again, and yes, I would LOVE if any/all of you came to cheer me on. October 1st, can’t miss the thousands of runners down by the Milwaukee lakefront that weekend.

19 miles

I have had two “long runs” and I have 3 more before I start to taper before race day. Overall, I am feeling awesome. Stronger than ever, and ready for another amazing and memorable race. My family and Patrick have been so incredibly supportive with my early nights and tired Saturdays – it doesn’t get better than the journey πŸ™‚

16 miles

I also started a new job in May! I now work at Harley Davidson. I haven’t loved a job like I love this one in a long time, so I actually look forward to coming to work every day πŸ™‚ I can’t complain, the first 100 days have been fantastic! I even got to pose with one at Summerfest, so I mean… pretty cool right?

harley

Pretty exciting update too – I finally completed my certification for Fitness Nutrition through ACE! I now can build my future practice (since I don’t current have a practice, technically) with personal training and help those with dietary and nutrition questions too πŸ™‚

Also as you know if you follow me on Instagram, I have been developing my personal yoga practice fairly deeply over the last several months. It’s been the most enriching and powerful practice I’ve ever experienced, and every single day my body surprises me with new arm balances and flexibility improvements. It’s been a BLAST – and thank you all for supporting this journey! Who knows – maybe YTT is in my future πŸ˜‰

Patrick and I have officially been in our apartment for over a year now, and we are loving it more and more as we settle deeper into our life in Tosa. Baymax loves it, we have fantastic neighbors, and couldn’t be happier where we are πŸ™‚

family

We have been so fortunate to have a busy summer, filled with seeing friends, family events, and plenty of races of all kinds. We completed two triathlons this year (one was actually only biking/swimming, since the swim was canceled) we had a blast completing both!

I’ve been able to complete some races with my dad and sister as well! I LOVE that we have such a fun and strong running family!

We have so much to look forward to during the rest of summer. We have FOUR weddings in September, I have my long-runs continuing, we have some travel here and there – – – and it’s all so beautiful, I am completely filled with gratitude and love all the time. Our lives are truly shining with overwhelming amounts of love and friendship and I am humbled by everything I experience every day ❀

These two beautiful brides are getting married in September, and I am honored to be in both weddings! Over the summer, we had showers/bachelorette parties and I had SUCH a blast celebrating their love!!!

A few snippets from this summer. Full of love, smiles, memories, and a decent amount of O-Gii from MKE Brewing Company πŸ˜‰ I can’t wait to see how summer continues to shine, and I hope that each of you has light pouring on your face and experiences each and every day as well ❀

Peace to you all! Thank you for reading my somewhat crammed life update πŸ™‚ Cheers!

xoxo. ❀ FitnessbyShannon

Sunday Funday Update 5.15.16

Happy Sunday again! This weekend is unique for us, because we got our long run out of the way Friday night since it was our nicest weather for the weekend. Anddddd we were able to actually sleep in both days and go out with friends both nights! πŸ™‚

Officially ONE WEEK until the big race. We are honestly both very excited and are also both incredibly determined to hit our goal times. We trained very well together, hit all our required miles, recovered well, and have been sleeping/hydrating appropriately too! Really can’t wait to post a blog about it next week you guys πŸ™‚

image

image

image

image

Also Thursday night, I came home from a Happy Hour with my coworkers to this delicious dinner that Patrick whipped up. Literally my favorite combination! Chicken sausage and sauteed vegetables. Needless to say, I gobbled it up way too fast πŸ™‚

image

This morning I made a banana oatmeal muffin recipe and they turned out SO GOOD. No flour or sugar! I’m absolutely adding these to our permanent recipe box πŸ™‚

image

image

This week I’m focusing on yoga and some light weight lifting but aside from a few runs, I’m ultimately not going to work my legs hard at all. To recover and make sure our bodies are fully charged for the race. Woooooo!!!

Friday night we went over to our friends’ home for a wonderful night with wine and food and watching Chef Netflix shows that we are all so obsessed with now! Seriously addicted to cooking shows…

image

Saturday we went to my cousin’s bridal shower and it was so wonderful seeing that side of my family again! She is getting married in Mexico this fall!!! Living the dream… πŸ™‚

image

And Saturday night we went to dinner at a funky delicious restaurant in Bayview and then headed over to our friend’s play that he directed! We are such groupies and love seeing the productions he acts in and is involved with as often as we can!

image

image

Today? We rest. And meal prep. And are going shopping for the first time in probably months haha! Off we go!

I’ll post some links tomorrow. Today? We relax and enjoy this beautiful sunshine.

Peace and love! Xoxo.

Thursday Thoughts and Tapering 5.12.16

Hi people!! It’s Thursday again! πŸ™‚ I have some thoughts about the last week… joining in with Amanda with Running with Spoons as always!

My yoga challenges are seriously becoming one of my favorite parts of my day. If not my favorite sometimes. I love seeing how I can contort myself and push my body to new strength, balance and flexibility. It pushes me to new creative thinking too – deciding how to change the camera angles, my lighting, and how I want to portray the challenge pose for the day.

image

image

It really is a fun thing to do – and it gives me some ideas on how I can push my yoga flow and influence my body to focus on different balances and ideas πŸ™‚ Even though obviously the above two pictures are pretty much the same pose – for different challenges πŸ˜‰

image

image

image

Oh, and since we’re tapering for our marathon, yoga has been a really great way for me to maintain my strength and balance and core work. Guys, I know that tapering sounds awesome (less miles, more time for other stuff, duh) but these miles are still just as hard as the prior miles, and we aren’t even running as hard or as long!

I think it’s safe to say, we are READY FOR RACE DAY. May 22 – come on! πŸ™‚

image

We went for a lovely run last night (stilllll tapering) and the weather was warmmmm and muggyyyy and I seriously loved it. Call me crazy, but I love humidity and warm climates; I secretly wish I could live in Florida weather, but still here in Wisconsin. I love the cool humid mornings too. Ahh! Take me to Florida. πŸ™‚

image

Our cookinggggg lately has been superb…when is it not? πŸ™‚ Not going to lie, since we both have a LOVE for cooking and good food, it’s hard to have a night where we don’t like our dinner choice. Whether we spend an hour or more cooking or we just throw together an egg sandwich (below) with some coconut oil sauteed veggies… it always works out and we are always satisfied πŸ™‚

image

image

We are also SO excited to get out on our bikes more often!! Yes, we love marathon training, don’t get me wrong. But we cannot wait to get on our biking training too! We have one triathlon scheduled for this summer (I’m hoping to schedule another one too) and a duathlon or two as well! Biking is so much fun and we can carry on a conversation and love our new awesome bikes, with our lunches or snacks in our bags! We definitely plan on doing some long bike rides this summer πŸ™‚

image

And oh! How could I forget my new work friend Charlie!! My friend Blair brought Charlie in to visit at work and I got to puppysit for a half hour πŸ™‚ He’s pretty dang adorable and really makes me want my own puppy like NOW! I hope he can come hang out with me again soon πŸ™‚

image

image

Have a gorgeous day friends!Β What are you looking forward to this weekend??

We have my cousin’s bridal shower on Saturday, with an 8 mile run before. And lots of relaxing and preparing for our marathon and our move at the end of the month! I also smell a long bike ride on Sunday…. πŸ™‚

Peace, xoxo.

That’s my really exciting update on today’s Thursday Thoughts with Amanda at Running with Spoons! We are winding down our marathon training (aka tapering) so we are resting up, letting our bodies recover, and enjoying the weather as its slowwwwly getting warmer!

What are you doing for Cinco de Mayo? DO YOU LIKE TACOS? I think everyone does…

Have a wonderful day!

Peace, xoxo.

Happy May! Sunday Links 5.1.16

Happy May!! We are so excited for this month; we have so much planned, including obviously one of the most important events this year, our marathon! This is the start to our exciting summer, with running and biking events, concerts, weddings, and lots of awesome travel! May is always a great month πŸ™‚

imageThis past weekend, we left for Dubuque after work Friday for our friends’ wedding Saturday night!

imageWe also happened to run 20 miles yesterday morning, ending just minutes before we needed to get ready for the wedding. It was cold, super rainy, and the wind just beat us around the whole time, BUT we did it! It was pretty hilarious, we were pretty exhausted, but it was a fantastic weekend and we feel great about everything we accomplished!

image

image

image

imageAnd of course, we are so excited for our friends Megan and Andrew for their beautiful marriage! The ceremony and reception was gorgeous, and they even had a CANDY BAR at the end of dinner for us to partake in! I was a big fan of the caramels and plain M&M’s, as always πŸ™‚

We are so excited to be home now, with our own food and watching Bones again πŸ™‚ How was your weekend?? Do you have any weddings coming up? Any fun events this month?

Thursday Thoughts and Musings! 4.28.16

It’s almost May!!! This month is flying by! I can’t believe next month is Marathon Month. NEXT MONTH ALREADY. Only about 3 weeks away, holy cats!

It’s okay, we’re good. This is all fun and I’m trained and ready and happy πŸ™‚ #repeat

Joining Amanda again for Thinking Out Loud Thursdays! πŸ™‚

The weather here has been DISMAL this week. Cloudy, rainy, cold, windy. Just all the above. Thanks Wisconsin. We had a fun run last night with our running group, and my dad and awesome friend Sarah met up with us! Unfortunately, this drizzly depressing weather had to hit us, but at least we had great conversation and refreshments (beer at Big Head Brewing Company and pretzels) afterwards πŸ™‚

image

This last week, we’ve been cooking, cleaning, running, and, YES. SIGNING OUR LEASE FOR OUR NEW APARTMENT! πŸ™‚ Seriously so excited. I can’t wait to send over pictures when we move in at the end of May! We both are going to be closer to our workplaces, and the neighborhood is quiet and beautiful and I can run outside in the morning alone and feel safe (which is HUGE obviously). AND WE CAN GET A PUPPY – more to come, more to come. πŸ˜‰ But let’s just say, we’re pretty freaking ecstatic!

Like, how about this lil guy? πŸ™‚ ❀ Courtesy of JR’s Pups-N-Stuff πŸ™‚

On that note, I miss my Gussa SO MUCH. He was at work with me last Friday, through the weekend, and I had him all day Monday too. I know he’s happy to be back home, but I WOULD HAPPILY take him full time πŸ™‚

image

Anyways, after I look at puppies all day, I’m still doing allllllllll my yoga challenges. Here are some updated photos for that πŸ™‚ I’m feeling so much stronger, more confident, and so excited to try new poses for these challenges. It’s so fun, I can’t even stand it πŸ™‚

I’ve also been sautee’ing veggies and baking banana muffins like crazy this week πŸ™‚ I love it, they’re so delicious. I’ll probably share a blog on them… πŸ™‚ Next week!

How is everybody else today? Any fun weekend plans? We are heading to Dubuque tomorrow after work for a wedding!! Our friends are getting married Saturday night AND we have our 20 mile run on Saturday morning. What a weekend it’ll be. I hope that lots of sleeping will happen on Sunday haha πŸ™‚

Peace! Xoxo ❀

Sunday Links and Productivity! 4.24.16

FIRST OF ALL, WE ARE LESS THAN ONE MONTH AWAY FROM OUR MARATHON. I can’t believe how fast this training has gone! Our 20 mile run is next weekend already! AHH! πŸ™‚ I’m not gonna lie, I’m excited it’s getting closer, because running and sleeping is probably 2/3 of my life. Which isn’t bad, but it’s a lot. And I’m ready for the big day! πŸ™‚

This has been such a productive and fun week and weekend! We have been cooking a ton as always, running a ton as always, cleaning a lot this week (whyyyy do we go through so much laundry??) and this weekend, we have done a ton of errands! We grocery shopped, have been dog-sitting my dad’s dog GUSSA all weekend, and have generally organized and cleaned around the apartment too πŸ™‚ What a great way to spend our time together this weekend πŸ™‚ It’s just the best feeling to be productive and yet have fun together!

image

Having Gus over has been SO MUCH FUN. Needless to say, we are both addicted to petting and playing with him, and are probably both his #1 fans (in addition to, um, the rest of the world!). He is so loving and playful and LOVES walking around meeting other dogs and smelling new smells in our neighborhood πŸ™‚ OH, and climbing up on my couch, thinking he’s a lap dog πŸ™‚image

Yesterday morning was a “lighter” long run for us – only 12 miles. It’s crazy we can say “only” before a double digit mile run. Next weekend we have 20, and last weekend we had 19, so you get my point πŸ˜‰ Another gorgeous morning it was for us, and we grabbed Gus on his leash to finish the last mile or so with us, aka, it was a slow and hilarious time together πŸ™‚ He just loves being outside and with us, even if it means running (which he pretty much haaaates for more than 1/2 mile!).

image

And of course, we had to get frozen yogurt. As we always do Saturday nights πŸ™‚ MY FAVORITE TRADITION πŸ™‚ ❀

image

I’m also going to note in here that we toured a few apartments this weekend… and I THINK WE FOUND THE PLACE πŸ™‚ Stay tuned… I’ll post more about it when we know for sure what our next step is πŸ˜€ I AM SO EXCITED!

I’ve been partaking in my favorite yoga challenges. πŸ™‚ Here are some of my faves from the last few days! (especially the one with Gus in it haha!)
