Life Lately & Women’s Day! 3.8.17

Happy Wednesday!

I have had this in my drafts to send out for a few days now, and I haven’t gotten around to writing anything in it. It’s just a blog full of pictures πŸ™‚ So now I have some time.

How have I been lately?! Well I’ve been doing a LOT of yoga challenges on Instagram, so my apologies if your feed is bombarded with pictures of me in every kind of pigeon pose ever πŸ™‚ I love joining challenges, because they help me think more creatively about my own expression of poses, how to get in and out of them, and how to flow from one pose to the next. It’s really fun for me, and I really enjoy doing them!

Of course I still have my favorite inversions and arm balances included too πŸ˜‰

I was just musing to Patrick last night about how lucky and fortunate (and frankly, awesome) we are that we cook fresh food every night for dinner. If we aren’t eating fresh, we’re eating leftovers from the previous day or two, and we go out to eat probably once per week, almost always on a weekend.

We have our staple foods that we love to go out for, and SUSHI is one of them πŸ˜‰ Duh.

If it’s a homecooked meal, it’s almost always some kind of veggie/meal/rice concoction, a homemade pizza on Angelic Bakery dough, or, more recently, Patrick’s homemade pasta sauce with whole grain noodles (and of course lots of veggies).

This food warms my heart, warms my body, and is so incredibly nourishing. I am a hugeeeee veggie lover, and any meal we have is covered in peppers, mushrooms, onions, at the minimum πŸ™‚

We celebrated Baymax’s 1st birthday last week too. He’s the best puppy in the world. The best puppy we could ask for. He sleeps with us, eats with us, and snuggles better than any human. We are so grateful for that little guy.

His own puppy ice cream πŸ™‚

Half marathon training is still happening. And it’s still going really well. I have finally found my “happy pace” when I get on the treadmill every morning before work. Pushing through those first few miles and coasting through to the end. My outdoor runs have been just as wonderful (just slower, of course, and longer distances). I am in a good spot, and I’m so grateful for my body to be so forgiving πŸ˜‰

I also just have to mention that this lady below and I (and our men) sang Bohemian Rhapsody for karaoke night last Friday. And we didn’t fail. And it was really fun. And I actually enjoyed myself. πŸ™‚ Definitely doing that again ❀

I would be remiss if I didn’t include a blurb about International Women’s Day, which is today, March 8th. I know there has been a lot of turmoil around the idea of “feminism” and “equal rights” etc. lately, especially among just the female population.

It’s my sincere hope that all women can find this time to work together for the common goal of being an equal and being heard and being treated fairly. I know that people can sometimes scoff at the word feminist, and if that happens, then I personally believe they are misunderstanding the meaning. Whereas some women will burn bras and riot and yell and scream to make a statement, there are SCORES of other women who silently protest; who work as hard as they can to get a promotion; who get high-level educations. Neither way is wrong or right; it all depends on YOU. The woman who is choosing to educate herself and exercise her freedom of speech and equality.

I am a feminist, because I want women to feel empowered and strong and not unfairly treated. I believe women should be 100% equal to any other human being on the planet, no questions asked. There is no difference between us and men. I have been surrounded by strong women my entire life, namely my mom and my sister. But even my grandmothers and aunts prove to me that we have a voice and we should not sit around and let others make decisions pertaining to our rights without vocalizing what’s important to us.

Thank you for reading this, if you did, and I appreciate your trust and respect and opinions too! πŸ™‚

I hope you all have a fantastic day πŸ™‚ I know I will!

Peace, xoxo.

9.2.2015 Workout Wednesday!

Good afternooooooooooooon my lovelies! Happy Belated September and Pumpkin Things Celebration!

My favorite seasonal quote is the one from The Great Gatsby below, β€œlife starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” While autumn doesn’t officially start until next week, it has gotten crisp in New York. Not only is everyone happy to no longer be sweating but they are also happy to […]: My favorite seasonal quote is the one from The Great Gatsby below, β€œlife starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” While autumn doesn’t officially start until next week, it has gotten crisp in New York. Not only is everyone happy to no longer be sweating but they are also happy to […]

Phew, this week has been a whirlwind but I wanted to check in and give y’all an update on my workouts this week! I’ve been doing two-a-days… I know… its a nice/crazy problem to have… and I have some exciting news to share too!

Last Saturday, wonderful dad, lovely boyfriend, and awesome friends ran a half marathon. No big deal, cuz #marathontraining right? Wrong. I struggled SO hard. I had back pains, dehydration issues, and really just wanted to lay down and fall asleep. BUT I pushed on and finished it upright with a modicum of dignity… ha.

FullSizeRender(4) FullSizeRenderI started two new yoga challenges for this month. One is hosted by @kinoyoga and @beachyogagirl and the other is hosted by @fitqueenirene. If you have IG and love yoga, you absolutely need to follow them and do their challenges, because #theyrechallenging. I always learn something new about myself and my flexibility and skillz whenever I do them, so try it!

I went to a yoga class this morning and it was magical. Seriously – I felt so in tune with the teacher’s cues and the flow of the classroom was so peaceful. She even gave us some peppermint patchouli oil while we were in savasana to relax us. It was really hard for me not to shower that delicious scent off…

I’ve also been running, a lot. And I tried cycling this week again to get my legs moving in a new way. Shake it up right?

I’ve also been swimming a ton. And I LOVE IT. For some reason, Wisconsin has decided that summer is NOT over and it’s 95 degrees today. So swimming was a must to cool this lil mama down! Oh, and cold smoothies every hour on the hour please!

IMG_7754LAST BUT NOT LEAST – I was contemplating what kind of “running stuff” I could utilize for my marathon to help keep me running, fueled, hydrated, and motivated to kick some serious boo-tay! And I came to the conclusion that most of my “lost time” I could make up is when I’m at water stops. SO, CONCLUSION – get a Camelbak! I have all the water I need right on my back and I’m set for the whole race!

Well I brought this idea up to my dad and Patrick and they’re all “ehhh, maybe just wait”…. okay… So I waited. And WHAT SHOWS UP IN THE MAIL TODAY?

MY NEW BEST FRIEND! My amazing boyfriend who never ceases to surprise me had already ordered this beautiful piece of equipment for me to use in my training and on my race day. I seriously can’t thank him enough. #hegetsme

There’s my short and sweet summary for my week thus far of wonderfully delicious workouts. Swimming, biking, lifting, running, and lots of eating. LOTS of eating. #lifeisgood πŸ™‚

How’s your week been? Are you training for anything? Any awesome stories you wanna share about Camelbak’s?

Peace, xoxo.

Wednesday Workout Recap #5

Yessssss, guys…I’m feeling SO much better today. Yesterday was so bleghh, and today is so woohoo!!! πŸ™‚

We made a delicious, simple and easy-on-my-stomach dinner last night: egg fried rice with veggies. MY FAVORITE.

Early to bed, and early to rise… Β you know how the saying goes πŸ˜‰ We watched The Hunt for Red Octoberhave you seen it? I LOVED IT! Sean Connery is definitely in my list of top male actors.

OUTFITT class this morning really worked up a great sweat for me, flushing out bad toxins and getting some badly needed fresh air and summer sunrise ❀

This class is always so fantastic because our coach utilizes all parts of the Milwaukee County parks, and we are just hopping, running, skipping and stair-climbing all over the downtown area!

photo 2

We started the workout with a jog that focused on exertion levels; meaning, we ran .25 miles at 75% exertion, and then .15 miles at 85% and then did a stair climb, down and up. Then we repeated it 4 more times. It was REALLY intense and opened our strides and got our heart rates through the roof!

Then we jumped up on these cylinder things and did mountain climbers, decline push-ups, and lateral jumps.

^^Sweaty mess Shannon, only halfway through the workout.

We did a segment that had 20 pull ups (feet on the ground, our bodies angled), and then 40 walking lunges…3 times through. DANG that kills our legs (in a great way!).

After this segment, we did sprints of all kinds, which left us all DRAGGING. That was probably the toughest part of the workout. And then, of course, he graciously lets us finish with ONLY two hills today πŸ˜‰ What a nice coach.Β I love how these classes are designed, because they incorporate a great amount of cardio (obviously), but also strength training. πŸ˜€

All I’m thinking about is my nice big protein-spiked smoothie at home…

And a quick peak at my yoga poses for the last two days. These were toughies.

What’s your favorite Wednesday workout?Β

Do you like high cardio classes?

Have a great day!! See y’all tomorrow πŸ™‚
